How the sound game works

Each of the three rounds plays you a single clip of one weapon firing, pulled from Call of Duty's own audio. Nothing on screen tells you which gun it is — the clip is the whole question. Press play, listen as many times as you want, then pick the weapon out of the armoury and confirm.

Listening to a gunshot

Rate of fire is the fastest way to narrow the field: SMGs rattle, assault rifles thump at a steadier cadence, LMGs are slower and heavier again, and a sniper is a single crack with a long tail. After that, listen to the body of the sound — the mechanical clatter of the bolt, how much low end the shot carries, and how long it rings out. Two guns from the same family often differ by little more than that tail.

Scoring

Naming the exact weapon is worth 500, and answering quickly is worth up to 500 more — half the round rides on the gun, half on the clock. Listening costs you nothing, however long the gun fires for, but the bonus starts falling the moment the clip ends, gently at first and faster the longer you take, until it is gone at twenty-five seconds. All 500 of it means answering as the last shot lands, so a 1,000 round is a rare thing. A slow right answer is still a good answer. Picking the wrong gun from the right category banks 250, and anything else scores nothing. Three perfect rounds make 3,000.
